Case Study Overview:

What is a stainless-steel manifold/distribution header?

  • A horizontal tube with several open ports/nozzles along its length.
  • Four vertical support tubes welded to a mounting plate.
  • Sanitary-style fittings and polished stainless-steel construction.
  • A chain with sanitary caps/fittings attached, which connect into a hygienic piping system.

How its used within the Printing industry:

  • The polished stainless construction is common in printing equipment where water, coating, ink additives, or cleaning fluids are used.
  • The horizontal pipe with multiple branch connections is designed to distribute fluid evenly across a machine width.
  • The four upright tubes feeding into the header suggest flow is being supplied from below and mixed/equalised before exiting through the main tube or attached nozzles.
  • The sanitary caps chained to the base indicate it may be removed for cleaning and maintenance.

One thing that stands out is that the branch connections enter the header at different positions along its length. That’s a common design when engineers are trying to achieve uniform flow and pressure distribution across a wide machine, such as a printing press or coating line.
